[Excerpt]

On Friday, the President will attend the 2014 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (PAFIOO) and host a ceremonial dinner for the awardees and their families. The biennial awards recognize Filipino individuals and overseas organizations that have made significant contributions to our country’s development, either by exhibiting professional excellence or by advancing the cause of Filipino communities abroad.

Today the President will lead the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2015 kickoff ceremony in Makati. Nearly 20 years since our country last hosted APEC, President Aquino will lead the unveiling of the APEC 2015 official logo to formally launch the Philippine hosting. As a founding member of APEC, the Philippines is committed to facilitating dialogue toward sustainable economic growth and development among regional economies. The first APEC 2015 meeting will be held next week in Legazpi City, Albay, where APEC senior officials will gather for the APEC Informal Senior Officials’ Meeting (ISOM).

Tomorrow, President Aquino will deliver the keynote address during the 2nd State Conference on the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), an international anti-corruption treaty ratified by 172 countries, including the Philippines. The annual conference focuses on the implementation of the measures outlined in the UNCAC and highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating corruption.
