After years of persistence and focus, geologist Francine Beatriz Prades is finally homeโbringing with her not just memories from the United States, but new ideas to help communities in the Philippines thrive. Her journey through the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program reflects a growing push by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) to turn temporary study and training abroad into lasting gains for the nation.
As secretariat to the program, the CFO is strengthening reintegration efforts so returning Filipinos like Prades can apply what theyโve learned where it matters mostโat the grassroots level.
A fellow of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), she shifted from environmental research to civic engagement to better understand how science connects with societyโproving that global exposure can spark local impact.
